The coffee tastes great, even if you do use cold water, which some reviewers have noted doesn't produce the best coffee. All in all, a great buy. The Zojirushi thermal carafe coffee maker is the best coffee maker we've ever had. The thermal carafe keeps the coffee hot and you don't have that burnt coffee smell from the coffee sitting too long on the warming plate.
The top on the coffee pot is very hard to remove because it has small spokes around it which provide the only "grip" to open it, and the spokes cut into your fingers - so much so that at a minimum, you need to open it with a towel (I'm 40 and mechanically inclined, by no means frail). If you buy this, you will return it. Though highly reviewed, I couldn't help but think that the folks who reviewed this positively must not be coffee drinkers. Other than that, the machine itself is made of the thinnest and cheapest plastic I have seen in all the coffee machines I have bought over the years.
I did follow someone else's recommendation to have room temp water to pour thru instead of coming from frig. my husband & I love a GOOD cup of coffee using fresh ground beans that is HOT in the morning and this machine delivers. I researched a new coffee maker after having a cuisinart carafeless that I loved. reading the reviews was a major factor in my decision making. one reviewer was not happy about the controls on the side but if you turn the machine sideways, it solves that problem.
It's still under warranty but I'm sure it will be a hassle dealing with this. I expected this to last for many years not months. I was happy with this coffeemaker but at 8 months old it's not heating the water properly so the coffee is lukewarm. Wish me luck.
I read complaints of slow pouring. It makes great coffee. I read complaints of coffee all over the counter. I read reviews until I was cross-eyed. I've had my Zojirushi for a couple of months and I would highly recommend it. The thermal carafe won't break like my old glass one and it keeps the coffee hot for a long time.
It doesn't take "rocket science" to line up the carafe with the coffee drip. It took me weeks to decide on a coffee maker. I decided on the Zojirushi and I'm not sorry. It doesn't come out like a faucet, but pours reasonably well.
